A pop-up version of Dubai’s Museum+of+the+Future'>Museum of the Future has debuted at the World Government Summit, which kicked off in Dubai today (8 February).

Inaugurated yesterday by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai and Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, the preview facility looks at Dubai in 2035 and how robotics and artificial intelligence will impact life at that time.

The free-to-visit pop-up offers insight into a number of futuristic technologies designed to evolve and enhance the body and mind. Exhibits explore what role technology might play in our social and family lives, and discuss how it could be used to manage complex social and economic systems. The museum also offers a unique interactive experience to visitors by attempting to explore the future of the sector.

Following tours between 8-10 February, discussions will be held with people working on the project, including investor Chris Schroeder, Christian Bason of Danish Design Center and Brogan BamBrogan, co-founder of Hyperloop Technologies.

In order to fund the permanent version of the AED500m (US$136.2m, €124.1m, £87.9m) Museum of the Future, Dubai’s government is imposing an ‘innovation fee’ on some of its agencies to support the museum and future projects.

Architect Shaun Killa of Dubai-based practice Killa Design, has imagined the unique ring-shaped museum – a giant steel-clad structure covered in the poetry of Sheikh Mohammed, with light entering the building through the perforated text, casting interior patterns of Arabic script.

Plans are for the museum to change its exhibits every six months with the aim of always being “10 years ahead of today" in terms of technology.

The museum is currently set for December 2018. Sheikh Mohammed says the museum is the “first step of many to come” in his efforts to turn the UAE into a global engine for change.
