The organisers of Museums at Night – the annual after hours festival of arts, heritage and culture at UK attractions – have taken a stripped-back approach to promoting this year’s event by enlisting New York artist Spencer Tunick to create a naked human installation in Folkestone.

Famed for his controversial art installations featuring hundreds of nudes in public places – which have seen him arrested five times in New York – Tunick is seeking volunteers or an individual nude photo shoot to take place at Georges House Gallery in Folkestone for Museums at Night.

And if that wasn’t headline-worthy enough, renowned UK photographer Rankin will produce an exhibit at St Ann’s Allotments in Nottingham.

Having snapped everyone from a topless Kate Moss to the Queen, Rankin will train his lens on plot holders at the UK’s oldest and largest allotment – a Grade II* listed heritage site and a living museum – before showcasing the results at the museum that evening.

Now in its sixth year, the Arts Council England-funded Museums at Night festival ties in with the European initiative La Nuit des Musees. It is run by non-profit cultural publisher Culture24 and designed to attract new audiences into museums and galleries, via a whole range of exciting experiences and events.

This year’s event takes place over the weekend of Thursday 15 May – Saturday 17 May, featuring over 500 events across 400 cultural venues.
