Gensler wins interior design contract for San Francisco’s new NBA arena
Architecture studio Gensler have won the contract to design the interior of San Francisco’s Chase Center, which will be the new home of basketball franchise the Golden State Warriors.
Gensler will work with MANICA Architecture – who are designing the exterior of the building – to work on all the public interior space, including concourses, clubs, suites, offices, locker rooms the team store and retail space.
The architects have pedigree in the sport sector: Gensler has worked on the interior design for the Cleveland Browns’ FirstEnergy Stadium, the Hohokam Stadium for Oakland Athletics, and is also a part of the US$250m Los Angeles Football Club project.
The 18,000-capacity Chase Center is due to open in time for the 2019/20 National Basketball Association (NBA) season. The facility will anchor 11 acres of restaurants, cafes, offices and public plazas.
Chase Center chief operating officer Stephen Collins said Gensler was the “perfect fit” for the project, adding: “We want an arena that is a reflection of the Bay Area, but also a stand-out in the world of sports and entertainment. Gensler will help us achieve that mission.”
