NELC to produce Cleethorpes saltmarsh plan
North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) has reached an agreement with Natural England over its plans for the future management of a saltmarsh near Cleethorpes.
A strategic management plan will now be produced to help enhance and protect the area's coastal habitats, while also considering what steps can be taken to control the spread of the saltmarsh. Peter Burgess, portfolio holder for environment and the green agenda at NELC, said: "The council recognises the importance of protecting the natural environment and will work with Natural England to ensure Cleethorpes continues to be a haven for wildlife."
Natural England regional director Peter Nottage added: "We welcome [the council's] commitment to producing a management plan that will enhance the natural environment in the area and help meet the needs of the community." The plan, which is due to be adopted by the end of the year, is currently in development and further meetings between NELC and Natural England are being planned.
