NI tourism minister welcomes Tall Ships legacy
A series of maritime mosaics and plaques have been unveiled at Queen's Quay in Belfast, Northern Ireland, as part of attempts to create a lasting tourism legacy from the recent Tall Ships festival.
Installed by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB), the nine 1m (3.3ft) mosaics have been embedded into the ground and each tell the story of a particular historic ship associated with the city, including the Titanic and the SS Canbera. Northern Irish tourism minister Arlene Foster said: "The eyes of the world fell on Northern Ireland over the four days of the Tall Ships festival, allowing us to show that we are a destination that can compete with the best in the world.
"It is important now, that we continue to build on this success and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board has installed a series of mosaics and plaques on the walkways along the River Lagan, which bring the history of our seafaring heritage to life for visitors and residents alike."
