NMM/Art Fund in Shonibare artwork appeal
A national fundraising appeal has been unveiled by the National Maritime Museum (NMM) and the Art Fund in a bid to acquire Yinka Shonibare's Nelson's Ship in a Bottle.
The scale replica of Admiral Nelson's historic warship HMS Victory is currently on show at Trafalgar Square's Fourth Plinth until next year, following a two-year stay.
A £50,000 grant has already been announced by the Art Fund as part of fundraising efforts, although a further £362,500 is still required in order to secure the artwork.
If successful, it is proposed Nelson's Ship in a Bottle will take up residence outside NMM's new Sammy Ofer Wing in Greenwich, which opened in July.
