Nagoya named as Legoland Japan site
Merlin Entertainments Group, the UK-based visitor attractions operator, has named Nagoya as its preferred location for the development of a new Legoland-branded park in Japan.
The group will now press ahead with formal negotiations with city officials and it is thought the new attraction could open in 2015 subject to the necessary approvals.
A number of sites across Japan have been identified and examined by Merlin in conjunction with GCDS Corporation, which has obtained exclusive territorial rights for the project.
Frank Stanek, chair of the company that will develop Legoland Japan, said: "We sincerely believe Legoland Japan would make Nagoya an important tourist destination for both domestic and international markets."
Merlin general manager of Legoland development John Ussher added: "We are very pleased to have reached this agreement in Japan, which illustrates the strength of the Legoland brand and of Merlin's business model across the globe."
