The National Football Museum in Manchester has attracted 100,000 visitors in the first six weeks since its opening on 6 July.
As a result, the museum is likely to surpass its target of reaching 350,000 visitors in its first year.
Museum director Kevin Moore said: "It's happened far quicker than even we had anticipated and validates all the reasons we gave for moving the National Football Museum to Manchester in the first place."
Entrance to the museum is free but exhibits include exclusive paid-for interactives.
The National Football Museum was established - and its collection acquired - thanks to £9.3m investment by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
