National Gallery takes to the streets
The National Gallery has spruced up London’s West End by hanging 30 of its most prized masterpieces on the streets of Soho, Piccadilly and Covent Garden.
The Grand Tour scheme features life-size replicas of paintings by artists such as Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Monet, Rubens and Constable, created by the gallery’s sponsors Hewlett Packard, that will be displayed over the next 12 weeks (until 4 September) in an effort to attract people to the gallery to see them for real.
The public can visit the gallery’s website to find out which paintings are hanging where, print off a map and download an Mp3 audio guide and take a tour of the paintings. Alternatively, people can call the telephone numbers listed at each painting to get more information. Details: www.thegrandtour.org.uk
