National Lottery names 2010 awards finalists
Three projects have been named as finalists in the Best Sport Category of the National Lottery Awards 2010, which aim to recognise the contribution of Lottery-funded schemes across the UK.
Children's Able and Disabled Sport (CADS), Cheshire; Sportworx in South Lanarkshire; and Dromore Education and Community Partnership, County Tyrone are vying for the £2,000 cash prize. The sport category is one of seven that comprise the annual awards, which are now in their seventh year. Other categories include voluntary, heritage, health, arts, education and the environment.
Members of the public now have the opportunity to determine which of the three Lottery-funded schemes will be named this year's 'Best Sport Project' as part of a special BBC1 television programme later this year. Actress Fay Ripley said: "Lottery players raise £25m each week to support a wide variety of project and each year the National Lottery Awards recognise the incredible impact that Lottery-funded projects have on people and communities across the UK."
Votes can be cast by visiting www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards, with the poll due to close at midday on 13 August. Image: Sportworx, one of the finalists in the Best Sport Project category
