National Museum of China to be enlarged
The National Museum of China in Beijing is to undergo a two-year enlargement programme.
The museum, located to the east of Tiananmen Square in the centre of the city, will see its western, southern and northern sides renovated and repaired while a new section will be constructed eastwards.
When the project is completed the museum, built in 1912, will cover 192,000sq m (2 million sq ft).
The museum’s 620,000 collections have been moved out in preparation for the building work, which is due to begin in April.
