The National Regulators Amusement Device Committee held its fourth annual stakeholder /Regulator meeting in the afternoon prior to the conference opening day. Regulators were represented by members from NSW, SA, VIC and QLD.

The Industry stakeholders included representatives from the Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association, Australian Amusement Association, the various Showmen's Guilds through Australia, Royal Show Societies and Engineers Australia.

The meeting provided an excellent opportunity for free and open discussion on issues affecting the amusement devices industry. The first ever national audit document was discussed briefly, as it was being presented on day two of the conference to all attendees. The initial feedback was very rewarding and well received by industry. It is soon to be published on the National Regulators website, which is housed on the home page of the SafeWork SA website (www.safework.sa.gov.au).

Once again, an analysis of the National register of amusement device incidents and enforcement notices was presented for discussion. With the introduction of the national audit document, it is expected compliance will be improved even further.

The regulators advised that the Heads of Workplace Safety Authorities have created a National High Risk Plant Project which may affect the continuance of this Amusement Device committee as it may be incorporated within the High Risk Plant. Industry stakeholders were of the strong view that would definitely wish for this committee to continue, as it has worked extremely well with the industry and the barriers have been reduced enormously.

WorkSafe Victoria also presented an example of a field report, outlining activities carried out by inspectors in Victoria. The other state workcover representatives are reviewing this practice.

The group must be commended on the progress achieved and their concerted efforts to achieve national alignment in the governance of our industry.
