National Tree Week – a nationwide celebration of trees and woods
National Tree Week (21 November to 2 December) marks the start of the winter tree-planting season.
In celebrating its 31st birthday this year, millions of trees will continue to be planted across the UK as part of the initiative. Over the next few years, National Tree Week will be focusing on the overall theme, ‘Trees Matter – Plant Them.’
Events are being held across the UK, from a public tree planting day in the Forest of Marston Vale, Bedfordshire, to guided walks along the Danes Dyke Tree Trail in Yorkshire.
Carrickfergus Borough Council in Northern Ireland is planning to plant 10,000 new trees in the region during the planting season.
In Scotland, a festival of tree dressing will be held at the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park whilst in Wales, Anglesey will be planting a native species tree for every child up to 16 years old living in Llangefni.
These are just a few examples of what’s happening during the week. To find out more about events in your region to mark National Tree Week, log on to www.treecouncil.org.uk
