National Trust urges water management rethink
A National Trust report has claimed that a better way of managing water needs to be developed to cope with flooding and drought in the future.
From Source to Sea has revealed that 120 National Trust sites across Britain are at high risk from flash flooding, and within 50 years, a third of its sites could be affected by major water shortages. Working with tenant farmers, local authorities and government agencies, the trust has developed practical measures that will help it to deal with the effects of climate change.
Director general of the National Trust, Fiona Reynolds, said: "We're now dealing with a legacy of water mismanagement and misuse of its apparent plentiful supply. "It is vital that landowners, farmers, the water industry, the government and its agencies come together and work with natural processes to safeguard water from source to sea."
