National park to invest in cycling trails
Peak District National Park Authority (PDNPA) will invest £2.25m towards the improvement of its cycling trails.
The authority announced it had secured funding from the Department of Transport and Cycling England and plans to use the monies to improve the quality of off-road cycling trails and promote leisure cycling in the national park.
Announcing its budget for the 2010-11 financial year, PDNPA also revealed that it will use a £5.5m grant from the European Union Life fund to restore 2,000 acres (8sq km) of peat moorlands.
The work aims to combat climate change by storing carbon in the peat, reduce the risk of flooding and improve the quality of drinking water.
Other initiatives receiving funding from the authority’s £8.725m budget include an initiative which will see 250 ranger guided walks being organised for visitors to the park.
