'National plans' for London's Big Dance 2012
London's biennial dance festival - the Big Dance - is to be extended to communities across the country next summer as part of the culmination of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
Due to take place between 7-15 July, the capital's Legacy Trust UK programme will see the event involve a number of events led by a network of national dance groups in England. Co-ordinated by the Foundation for Community Dance, hub networks are also to be created in Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
Meanwhile, Big Dance London - backed by the Legacy Trust, the mayor and Arts Council England - will feature a dance piece comprising 2,000 people in Trafalgar Square. Wayne McGregor, artistic director of Wayne McGregor|Random Dance and the resident choreographer of the Royal Ballet, will create the piece.
Big Dance director Jacqueline Rose said: "Big Dance iss testament to the creative power of this country's dance community, working together." Founded in 2006 by the mayor of London, Big Dance has seen more than two million people take part since its inception.
