Nature reserve for Cambridge
East Chesterton in Cambridge will soon benefit from a new nature reserve.
The conservation area will feature a meandering stream, a reedbed and seasonally wet areas to provide suitable habitats for a range of wildlife, including otters, while a 5-metre high tower designed as a piece of public art will provide nesting opportunities for swifts.
Visitors will be able to access the fen via a new footpath linking the riverside bridge to Logan's Meadow. A new football pitch will be built just outwith the reserve.
Community reserves officer Ellis Selway said: "This is one of 12 new local nature reserves that the city is looking to create over the next seven years, a key action of our Nature Conservation Strategy.
"We are aiming to benefit wildlife and people's interests."
Cambridge City Council will exhibit a public display of the proposals on 4 July.
