New Balance plans Boston development
Massachusetts, US-based sportswear supplier New Balance has unveiled plans for a mixed-use development as part of an expansion of its headquarters in the Brighton area of Boston.
A sports complex with a 200m track and field athletics facility; a regulation hockey arena; a boutique hotel; and office buildings form part of its vision for the 14-acre (5.7-hectare) site.
The group's plans, which were hand delivered to the Boston Redevelopment Authority on 1 February, also include the provision of restaurants and a range of retail facilities.
New Brighton Landing is to deliver the development on behalf of New Balance within what it hopes will establish a new "health and wellness district" for Boston.
In a letter of intent, New Brighton Landing manager Lawrence E Kaplan outlined the plans for the site, which is currently occupied by buildings and car parking areas.
Kaplan wrote: "The project seeks to create an anchor of renewed activity along the Guest Street corridor focused on job creation, health and wellness, sporting activities, public open space, and vast improvements to public infrastructure."
