New Battersea plans receive public backing
Developers behind the latest proposals for a £5.5bn mixed-use redevelopment of Battersea Power Station in London have reported an increase in local support for the scheme.
Real Estate Opportunities and Treasury Holdings UK said that more than 80 per cent of visitors to a third public exhibition held during the first week of December supported architect Rafael Viñoly's overall masterplan for the site. The proposals, which have already been submitted to Wandsworth Council, boast 700,000sq ft (65,032sq m) of restaurant and retail space, a hotel, community facilities and a conference centre.
A riverside park, an extension to the Riverside Walk through to Battersea Park and public access to restored historic areas of the power station are also proposed, as well as 1.6 million sq ft (148,645sq m) of office space and more than 3,700 residential units. Meanwhile, 90 per cent of visitors to the exhibition also supported the proposed extension of the Northern Line, which is set to run from Kennington to Nine Elms and the Battersea Power Station site.
Rob Tincknell, Treasury Holdings UK managing director, said: "Throughout the entire planning process we have been mindful to create a scheme which represents the aspirations and concerns of all the stakeholders involved, not least the Battersea community. "We look forward to delivering this scheme which will both preserve the iconic Power Station building and create a vibrant new urban quarter in London."
