New Burnley 'football university' launched
The University and College of Football Business (UCFB) - a partnership between Burnley Football Club (BFC) and Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) - has launched.
Located within the transformed Jimmy McIlroy Stand at the club's Turf Moor stadium, the institution's campus will welcome its first intake of students from September 2011. Three BA (Hons) undergraduate degree courses are to be offered - Football Business and Media; Football Business and Finance; and Football Business and Marketing.
Each of the courses have been validated by BNU and will see students study core modules in the first year to provide a "comprehensive" understanding of the sector. A 35-bedroom halls of residence has been created in the centre of Burnley, while students will have use of fitness facilities at the club's Academy.
Philip Wilson is the chief executive and provost of UCFB, while Professor Chris Kemp is pro vice-chancellor. An advisory board has also been established. BFC director Brendan Flood said: "We are a living case study for students, which will give them a real opportunity to understand what the daily challenges are of a football club.
