Cancer Research UK has teamed up with exercise reward app bounts to inspire charity fundraisers to keep active all year round.

Available for both iOS and Android, the CRUK Active app encourages current exercisers to go beyond an annual Race for Life event or charity cycle, and maintain their fundraising efforts and physical activity throughout the year.

The app incentivises users with reward points which can be redeemed for cash vouchers from brands and high street retailers. It is also intended to motivate inactive individuals to take up a challenge or Cancer Research UK sporting event, based on research that participation levels are found to be 30 per cent higher in people using a fitness reward system.

The CRUK Active app, powered by bounts, connects to members’ Just Giving pages, and enables them to receive additional reward points when they hit fundraising goals.

“The CRUK Active app represents a great opportunity for us to encourage our supporters to take small steps to being more active and becoming healthier, by rewarding them for taking part in events, going to the gym, or even taking the kids out for a walk in the park,” said head of events at Cancer Research UK Clive Sanders.

“The fact that supporters will also be encouraged to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, and will be recognised for doing so, is of significant benefit to the charity and ultimately the life-saving research that we fund.”

The app will allow people to track a range of activities, including walking, running, swimming and cycling. Referring friends, reaching fundraising goals, connecting with other tracking apps and entering leisure venues are just some of the ways members can earn points.

“We love that bounts brings together people from all walks of life and we hope that through this app we can encourage more people to take part in Cancer Research UK sporting events,” said bounts founder John Stuart.

“Our bounts members may not be chasing gold medals – they’re often more focused on the rewards exercising with bounts can bring. However, if we can motivate more people to stay active through this new app, in addition to helping others, then it’s extremely beneficial for all.”
