New Concorde attraction delayed
The opening of a new £1.1m Concorde hangar and visitor centre at Manchester Airport has been delayed.
Work on the project had to be put on hold after it was discovered the development site was home to some rare newts. Manchester Airport now expects the new attraction to open early next year, with work now able to restart on the development. A conservation programme to re-home the newts, which cost £5,000, was carried out with the help of Natural England.
The airport's environment manager, Tim Walmsley, said: "We routinely survey for newts as a matter of course. Before we even submit planning permission for a project, we carry out a survey of the ground for newts and as soon as we spotted one, we called in the experts."
