New Grand Canal route unveiled in Dublin
South Dublin County Council (SDCC) has unveiled a new 8.5 km (5.3-mile) pedestrian and cycle route along the Grand Canal, which aims to provide a safe alternative for commuters and leisure users.
The Green Route, which has been developed along a stretch of canal between the 3rd Lock at Inchicore and the 12th Lock at Lucan, boasts fishing points, boating and berthing areas and new seats. SDCC worked in partnership with Dublin City Council, ESB Networks and Waterways Ireland to deliver the scheme, which also included the maintenance of wildlife habitats and security measures.
Lord Mayor of Dublin City, Emer Costelloe, said: "The project is an outstanding example of four statutory bodies coming together and working to achieve complementary goals for the common good."
