New Mediterranean links golf course to open
The first links golf course in Antalya, Turkey, is expected to launch on 1 November as part of the recently opened five-star LykiaWorld & LinksGolf Antalya resort complex.
The 72-par golf course has 18 holes and will have, come 2009, a 27-par nine hole training academy, both designed by American golf course architect Perry O. Dye of Dye Designs.
The courses are made from eco-friendly Paspallum turf, a grass which can be maintained using sea and surface water. The facilities include a 750sq m chipping and a 500sq m putting green with bunkers, as well as a double-ended, 400m long, 40 bay driving range. PGA qualified coaches will teach all abilities, individuals and groups.
Ayhan Gokdemir, golf operators manager for the course, said the resort hopes to host international tournaments in the near future.
Adjacent to the course, which also features 16 golf villas with personal swimming pools, jacuzzis and saunas, is the resort's 449-room hotel.
Designed by architect Tuncay Cavdar and interior designer Sinan Kafadar, the hotel features a Technogym equipped fitness suite and Kinesis area, as well as a 5.5m euro (£4.28m,$7.38m) Ayurveda & Wellness Centre with a Japanese pool, 24 treatment rooms, two hammam suites and Bio, Finnish and Russian saunas.
The 1,000,000 sq m resort features three outdoor pools and one indoor swimming pool for adults as well as four outdoor and one indoor pool for children. There are also a range of specialist restaurants, bars and a buffet dining option.
Outside the resort, near 2.5km of private beach, there are eight tennis courts, beach volleyball courts and an aerobics and water sports area, as well as a shore front yoga area. Activities such as water polo, badminton, archery, pilates, tai chi, qui gong and meditation are also available.
Lykia World Group also operate and own the LykiaLodge Kapadokya and LykiaWorld Oludeniz, also in Antalya.
