New Rugby4Life scheme set to launch
Rugby clubs across the Yorkshire and Humber region have unveiled new senior touch rugby competitions as part of a wider scheme to encourage more people to get active.
Rugby4Life, which aims to build on the wider Change4Life initiative, is offering people over the age of 33 years old the opportunity to join new teams and play a low-contact form of both codes of the sport – union and league. Backed by the Rugby Football League (RFL) and the Rugby Football Union (RFU), the initiative is designed to get local businesses, pubs and clubs to enter teams as part of efforts to improve the health of the nation.
RFL director of participation and strategic partnerships David Gent said: "Many people love playing rugby, or would like the chance to try it, but may think they are too old to play anymore or are put off by the thought of heavy tackles and the risk of injuries. "Touch rugby offers a great way to enjoy playing without the fear of getting hurt and is suitable for both beginners and experienced players alike."
