New US$21m rollercoaster announced at Cedar Point
The Cedar Point theme park in Sandusky, Ohio, US, has announced that its 17th rollercoaster, the US$21m (£11m, 16.5m euro) Maverick, will open next spring.
The 4,450ft (1,350m)-long Wild West-themed coaster can accommodate around 1,200 riders every hour and will reach speeds of 70mph. It also features a 95-degree drop – which is more than straight down – to within 5ft from the ground.
The two and half minute-long ride also has three inversions as well as a 400ft (120m) dark tunnel and passengers will ride in cars designed to resemble steam-era trains.
Maverick is located on the former site of the White Water Landing ride in the Frontiertown region of the 137-year-old park. Details: www.cedarpoint.com
