New 'alliance' formed to protect Barn Elms
Residents, councils and political figures have joined forces as part of a new "alliance" that aims to protect London's Barn Elms from the development of a new 'Super Sewer'.
Thames Water has named the site between Putney and Barnes - a riverside nature spot and sports hub - as its preferred location for an excavation and waste transfer compound. Impressionist Alistair McGowan – one of the figures backing the campaign – said: "The playing fields and boat house alone used by more than 30 schools and 40 sports clubs.
"To ruin thousands of people's access to outdoor recreation and enjoyment when there is a viable brownfield alternative site is outrageous."
