The new £9m community facility, South Lanarkshire Lifestyles - Lanark was officially opened on Monday 8th March.

Responding to the wider needs of the local community this fantastic new facility has lots to offer and is an ultra modern, multi-use centre, replacing the existing Lanark Pool in South Vennel which closed its doors for the last time on 20th December 2009.

The £9m South Lanarkshire Lifestyles - Lanark received funding support of £560k from Sportscotland with the remainder being funded by the Council.

South Lanarkshire Lifestyles - Lanark offers users an exceptionally high standard of facilities designed to deliver a wide range of leisure services for the community including: a new 25m swimming pool with floating floor and health suite area which includes a sauna and steam room; a Hydrotherapy Pool with mechanical hoist for easy access/ egress; a community café area serving Starbucks coffee and tasty snacks; a spacious modern dance studio with sound system, sprung floor and mirrored walls; a 30 station brand new fitness gym which includes a Powerplate and equipment suitable for users with mobility problems; and a changing village with disabled facilities, dryside and outdoor changing and toilet facilities all complete with vanity areas and hair dryers. The facility also features a linking corridor to the adjacent Harry Smith Centre allowing easy access from one building to the other without going outside.

Councillor Gerry Convery, Chair of Community Resources Committee and South Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd commented: "This is a fantastic facility for the people of Lanark and beyond. The variety of Leisure services provided in the Lifestyle Centre reflects the commitment the Council and South Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd have made to providing high quality facilities."

Gerry Campbell, General Manager of South Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd also added: "South Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd operate Sports and Recreational facilities on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council and the investment in new facilities at Lanark continues to demonstrate the Council's commitment to improve services and widen opportunities for residents to engage in healthy lifestyles through active participation."
