New cycle and footpath opens in Cumbernauld
A new cycle and footpath, which runs for more than 2km (1.2 miles) between the Craighalbert area and Craigmarloch in Cumbernauld, has been opened by North Lanarkshire Council (NLC).
The new serpent-shape path has been developed in partnership with charity Scottish Spina Bifida and sustainable transport organisation Sustrans, which represents an investment of £500,000. Located next to the Scottish Spina Bifida Association's head office and the Scottish Centre for Children with Motor Impairments, the route is 3m (9.8ft) wide and fully accessible for disabled users.
NLC vice convener of planning and transportation Mark Griffin said: "The completion of this cycle and walkway provides a great recreational area for locals and visitors to enjoy."
