New cycle links for Cambridgeshire
Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) has announced that work is due to start on the construction of new cycling links across the south of the county.
Work is due to start on a £585,000 route between Babraham Road Park and Ride Site and Wandlebury to provide a 2.5m (8.2ft)-wide shared foot and cycleway across Wandlebury Park. Meanwhile, a similar £440,000 route between Horningsea and Fen Ditton is already starting to take shape in order to create a safe link between the two villages.
Both schemes form part of the wider Cycle Cambridge programme, which aims to promote bicycle journeys in the city and surrounding villages and is being led by CCC, Cambridge City Council and South Cambridge District Council. Cycle Cambridge programme manager Mike Davies said: "Whether you are cycling to school, work or for leisure we need to make sure we provide good quality routes to support existing cyclists and encourage more people to choose to cycle."
Both routes are expected to take 16 weeks to complete.
