New cycle track for Stourport-on-Severn
A new £440,000 cycle track has been opened at a sports club in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire, which will provide a home for Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club (WFCRC).
WFCRC and Stourport Sports Club teamed up with the national governing body British Cycling to develop the 11.5km (7.1-mile) closed road circuit for the town. The facility will be made available for individuals, private events and other activities, including in-line skating, walking and road running. The track is also safe for people with disabilities.
WFCRC president Alf Sparks said: "This track brings a new dimension into the sport of road racing in the local area. We have a great opportunity to develop our club and introduce a new generation into the sport." Tracey Onslow, cabinet member for community and partnership services at Wyre Forest District Council, added: "We hope that local people will take up the opportunity and come and ride the track. We're always working with partners to get Wyre Forest residents participating in sport."
