New director for Manchester museum
The Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester has appointed Dr Ian Griffin of NASA’s Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, USA as its new director.
Dr Griffin, currently head of the Office for Public Outreach for the Hubble Space Telescope, has previously been CEO of Auckland Science Centre in New Zealand, director of Astronaut Science Centre, Florida and director of Armagh Planetarium in Northern Ireland.
He takes up his position on 1 April, replacing Bob Scott who has been acting director since August 2002 when Patrick Greene left to become CEO of Museum Victoria in Melbourne.
The Manchester museum is currently nearing the end of a £15m capital development programme, which includes the new gallery Manchester Science: Discoveries that changed the world which will open on Griffin’s first day. Details: wwwmsim.org.uk
