New director for Toledo Museum of Art
Don Bacigalupi is leaving the San Diego Museum of Art to take up a new position as director of the Toledo Museum of Art in Ohio, USA.
Bacigalupi replaces Roger M Berkowitz, who has announced plans to retire in January 2004 after 30 years with the museum - the last five as its director.
Bacigalupi will assume the directorship on 19 January, but will become director elect in November 2003.
Bacigalupi says he was drawn to the Toledo Museum for its reputation as one of the country’s most revered institutions - with a collection in excess of 30,000 works.
The museum is also due to break ground on its $25m Center for Glass this year, which is being designed by Tokyo-based architectural firm, SANAA Ltd. This futuristic new attraction will house the Toledo Museum of Art’s acclaimed collection of glass and is scheduled to open in mid-2006. Details: www.toledomuseum.org
