New fitness suite for Nottingham’s National Water Sports Centre
The National Water Sports Centre (NWSC) in Nottingham is to unveil its new gym this month as part of a £500,000 redevelopment.
Redevelopment of the main sports building – which overlooks the regatta lake – and the installation of new Life Fitness equipment in the gym was overseen by operator Serco on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council.
Reflecting the sports facility’s need for diversity, equipment provider Life Fitness incorporated several product ranges into the design, with various resistance and cv equipment from the Signature Series, Circuit Series, HD Elite, Hammer Strength and Elevation Series.
“The NWSC already has a reputation as one of the nation’s most iconic and impressive sports venues and it’s been fantastic to have been involved in creating a gym which reiterates the Centre’s commitment to delivering excellence,” said Life Fitness account manager Cameron Bailey.
Serco was appointed as the managing agent to the newly formed Holme Pierrepont Leisure Trust in April 2013 – previously the water sports centre had been run by Leisure Connection before the contract was called back in by the local authority for a two-year period – tasked with operating, managing and developing the National Water Sports Centre in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council for the next 21 years.
“Our capital investment programme is well underway and the gym is one of the first phases to have been completed and re-opened to customers,” added director of leisure for Serco Ian Phelps. “When designing the facility a key requirement was its ability to cater for a wide range of fitness levels, sporting abilities and performance goals."
