New future for Derbyshire sports ground?
The Charles Hill Sports Ground in Heanor, Derbyshire, could be in line for a £1m overhaul if plans are given the green light by Amber Valley District Council (AVDC).
In September, the local authority was approached by a social enterprise led by Heanor Town Football Club with a view to taking on a lease for the facility for community use.
The plans would lead to the installation of a new 88m x 52m floodlit synthetic pitch for both rugby and football training, as well as a community room for meetings and indoor sports.
Other plans could see the existing hall replaced with a new pavilion and changing areas, plus improvements to the grass pitches and a 10-piece outdoor green gym trail.
AVDC cabinet member for active and healthier places to live Chris Short said: "It's still early days but this development is exciting news for the whole community involved."
