New gallery for Yorkshire Sculpture Park
A new, purpose-built gallery building will open to the public in May next year at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, near Wakefield.
Covering 576sq m (6,200sq ft) of floor space and designed to display a combination of sculptures, paintings and drawings, the new building will be launched with an exhibition of work by British artist William Turnbull.
Consisting of three large, light-filled galleries linked by a glazed walkway concourse, the building has been constructed in the slope of the park’s Bothy Garden with minimum impact in order to maintain the surrounding historic landscape.
Executive director of Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Peter Murray, said: “The addition of this dramatic new gallery, along with 500 acres of historic landscape, presents a unique opportunity for visitors to interact and engage with the works of art and denotes Yorkshire Sculpture Park as one of the world’s largest centres dedicated to the display of modern and contemporary art.” Details: www.ysp.co.uk
