New health spa proposed as part of County Durham hotel expansion

A new health spa is among a number of facilities being proposed as part of a major expansion of the historic Ramside Hall Hotel in Carrville, Durham.
Ramside Estates was granted outline planning consent for the new extension in 2005, before a subsequent reserved matters application and listed building consent was approved in 2008.
The project is now coming back before Durham County Council's area planning committee (Central and East Durham) in order to alter the scale and layout of the approved proposals.
Under the plans, the Christopher Padgett: architect-designed extension will feature a glazed entrance and a sloping ribbed zinc roof covering an indoor swimming pool.
The ground floor will incorporate a hydrotherapy pool, a spa pool, experience rooms and a Caldarium, while the first floor will feature 10 treatment rooms and a Rasul area.
The two-storey extension will also contain a number of new bedrooms, a gymnasium and an aerobics area.
