New historical resource centre to open in East Sussex
A major partnership between East Sussex County Council, Brighton & Hove City Council and the University of Sussex will see around 350,000 items moved from the Royal Pavilion & Museums to new historical resource centre The Keep, beginning next month.
Based in Falmer the facility will house the area's archives and historical records including: maps and plans; written records; photographs and films; prints and drawings; oral histories; digital and electronic records; and local, national and international collections.
Facilities at The Keep will include a temperature controlled archive block, research areas, classrooms, an oral history recording room, conservation workshop and digitisation suite and a café.
The Brighton History Research Centre will close from 1 April as a result of the move, with its resources and services available again when The Keep opens.
