New leisure facility planned for Grimsby
North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) has announced plans to build a new leisure centre in Grimsby, after a review found a number of facilities to be at the end of their "useful life".
A facility with an eight-lane, 25m swimming pool and fitness provision will be built on a site in front of an existing building on Cromwell Road under the local authority's proposals.
NELC now plans to start work on developing designs for the new centre, which will replace swimming pools at Grimsby Leisure Centre and Scartho Swimming Pool.
"The agreement to invest in our buildings will ensure that our leisure facilities are fit for purpose," said NELC portfolio holder for health, well-being, tourism and leisure Mick Burnett.
"We have been prudent with our finances and due to careful spending and planning we are able to make this GBP9m essential investment so that our area's leisure services are brought into the 21st century."
