New-look exhibits unveiled at National Coal Mining Museum for England
Culture secretary Jeremy Hunt has opened refurbished exhibits at the National Coal Mining Museum for England in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
A furnace shaft - though to be one of the last of its kind in existence - has benefited from repair and renovation work after receiving funding from the government and Heritage Lottery Fund.
The government contributed £150,000 after it was found the shaft was in danger of collapse. Meanwhile, the museum's lamproom displays were also refurbished.
Hunt said: "The opening of the new furnace shaft will make it an even more fascinating and informative experience for visitors."
