New monkey enclosure for Brent Lodge Park
Three common marmosets have taken up residence in a new enclosure at the Brent Lodge Park Animal Centre in Hanwell, London, as part of a wider scheme to improve the area.
Nearly £900,000 is being invested in upgrading Brent River Park as part of Ealing Council's Priority Parks programme, supported by £400,000 secured through the London mayor's Help A London Park contest in 2009. The three marmosets were housed at Brent Lodge Park Animal Centre after being seized by customs authorities at Heathrow Airport. In addition to the new enclosure, two aviaries are due to open later this year.
Kamaljit Dhindsa, cabinet member for customer and community services at Ealing Council, said: "More than 4,500 residents took the time to vote for the park, which enabled us to secure the initial funding and it is great to see the community continuing to give their time to help improve the area."
