New nature reserve for Shipley?
The former site of the American Adventure theme park in Shipley, Derbyshire could be turned into a nature reserve if new plans are put into action.
The Derbyshire Wildlife Trust has proposed that the 112-acre site, which is owned by the county council, be put to good use after the theme park closed in 2007.
According to Ripley & Heanor News however, Shipley Parish Council has been left “in the dark” about the plans.
The paper quoted the council’s vice chair, Dr Christopher Perko, as saying: “We were not told what is going to happen to the inner area. We have concerns that this would be a sweetener to a potential development of different source on the main site.”
However, a spokesperson for the trust said: “It is something that we are talking to the county council about but we are merely at the stage of looking at the feasibility of it.
“No decisions have been made and there are no actual plans. It is still very much up for discussion.”
Derbyshire County Council, confirmed that it had been in talks with the trust and that the plans would be considered at a meeting to decide the fate of the site at the end of the month.
