Wycombe District Council (WDC) has revealed that Fusion Lifestyle is to reopen and run the Buckinghamshire town's Holywell Mead leisure complex.

The council's cabinet approved plans to grant the operator a 50-year lease to the site, which is to be relaunched as a community leisure facility. Fusion Lifestyle is currently working on proposals to redevelop Holywell Mead, which will include the reinstatement of the outdoor swimming pools and wet changing areas.

The existing Rye Centre could be revamped to include a 40-station fitness suite with studio space, café and children's facilities, while the adjacent tennis courts would also be included. Once terms of the lease are agreed, it is expected that Fusion Lifestyle will draw up its plans for the site with a view to commencing conversion works in autumn 2011.

Holywell Mead had been operated as part of an overall management contract between WDC and Nexus Community, before the council sought an firm to run the site without subsidy. WDC cabinet member for younger and older people Richard Scott said: "Fusion has some very exciting proposals which we think reflects the aspirations of the council and the local community for this facility."
