New outdoor drinking ban for Loch Lomond
An outdoor drinking ban is set to come into force on the east side of Loch Lomond, Scotland, after proposals were approved by the local authority.
Stirling Council has agreed to extend existing byelaws, following a request from Buchanan Community Council to help tackle anti-social behaviour in the area. Buchanan Smithy, Milton of Buchanan, Balmaha, Rowardennan and Buchanan Castle will be covered by the extension, which has received support from a number of organisations, including the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park Authority.
Stirling Council leader Graham Houston said: "The byelaws are aimed at tackling the poor behaviour of a minority of visitors that is having a significant impact on the enjoyment of the area by visitors and the quality of life of some of our communities." Plans to extend the byelaws will now be referred to the Scottish Government for approval, although local people will still have the chance to register their objections before a final decision is made.
