New plan to preserve Barnstaple's heritage
North Devon Council (NDC) has published a new management plan, which is designed to outline measures to help conserve Barnstaple's historical and architectural features.
A number of points have been set out as part of the document to help protect the town centre in future years and includes buildings such as the 1826 Guildhall and Cross Street. NDC lead member for planning and development Colin Wright said: "There is so much history surrounding Barnstaple that many of us are unaware of - from the origins of the town's name to key buildings.
"The details of the town's heritage really are an eye-opener, and I would encourage everyone to find out more by looking at the management plan to see how we can all help preserve the area for future generations."
