New play space for Northampton
Northampton Borough Council Play Rangers, in partnership with Northamptonshire County Council, Friends of Northampton Racecourse and Miracle Design and Play are installing a new play space at the one of the city's largest open spaces.
The project at the 118 acre racecourse site has been funded through playbuilder with the play landscaping funded by the Big Lottery Fund. The space has been designed taking into consideration the natural landscaping of the site, ensuring the design added to and blended with the surroundings. A further key consideration was the history of the racecourse which - in partnership with the Friends of the Racecourse - included researching the site and comparing the design to archaeological dig data to ensure history was preserved.
The play equipment to be installed has been chosen to provide sufficient of a challenge to draw older children away from the existing toddler site and provide pockets of play within a natural environment. The site is currently on schedule for an opening at the end of April.
