New projects planned for Clark Freeport
Plans for major new leisure and tourism schemes at Clark Freeport Zone, the redevelopment of a former US Air Force base in the Philippines, have been unveiled.
Clark Development Corporation (CDC) is leading the projects, which aim to fulfil the Bases Conversion and Development Authority's vision for the site as a tourism destination.
The first project will be MegaWorld Corporation's mixed-use development in a 400-hectare (988-acre) area between the Clark Freeport Zone and Clark Special Economic Zone.
Leisure, residential, health and wellness elements are among proposals for the scheme, which is expected to cost at least PHP7bn (£102.6m, EUR119.5m, US$159.9m).
At least 200 hectares (494 acres) has been earmarked for the second project, the Clark STAR - Sports, Training, Amusement and Recreation, which will be located at the Clark Highlands.
Clark STAR will boast a wakeboarding complex, a soccer stadium and a swimming centre, as well as hotels and villas; a nature and theme park; and an athletes' training ground.
The third project will include tourism and leisure elements adjacent to Clark Freeport, while a fourth will include the Clark Sun Valley Golf Course and is due for completion in April.
South Korea-based Donggwang Clark Corporation is developing the 304-hectare (751-acre) complex, which will also include a water theme park; residence villas; and other amenities.
The fifth project, which is due for completion in April 2013, is the proposed CDC Corporate Building and is poised to include a multi-purpose hall and a fitness gym.
