New public realm planned for Southampton
Southampton City Council (SCC) has confirmed that it has been awarded £550,000 towards the creation of a newly-landscaped area of public realm outside the new Sea City Museum.
Planning permission has been granted for the scheme, which will include landscaping works and visitor cycling storage provided ahead of the new attraction's opening next April. PUSH has contributed the £550,000 towards the public realm project, while the Department for Transport has provided a £250,000 match grant as part of the Local Transport Plan.
SCC leader Royston Smith said: "This will be a space for residents and visitors to enjoy and will be in keeping with the high quality new tourist destination." Forming part of a new Cultural Quarter for Southampton, the Sea City Museum will feature two permanent galleries and has been designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects.
