A new report compiled by consulting firm Ekos on behalf of Forestry Commission Scotland has examined the tourism impact of the UK's first International Dark Sky Park in Galloway.
In late 2009, Galloway Forest Park was awarded Dark Sky Park status - the fifth worldwide - by the International Dark Sky Association for being a prime location for stargazing.
The report comprises interviews with a number of local tourism businesses, the majority (77 per cent) of which have seen an impact on the number of bed nights since the designation.
Forestry Commission Scotland invested £31,000 in the Dark Sky Park, including a one-off £10,000 cost. Additional visitor spend generated as a result has totalled more than £40,000.
The report concluded: "The Dark Sky Park offers a unique selling point for Dumfries and Galloway, particularly in the quieter period of the year."
