New research shows benefits of destination spas
New research by Cornell University has shown that visiting a destination spa leaves visitors feeling fitter, more energetic and with higher levels of endurance while performing everyday mental and physical activities.
The research examined more than 500 spa-goers across 25 destination spas against 500 randomly selected individuals who hadn’t attended a spa but had taken a holiday in the past 12 months. It is believed to be the first study undertaken in America to quantitatively show the benefits of destination spa holidays.
Key findings about people who visited a spa were: greatly improved agility levels, improved body image, more enthusiastic participation in exercise, increased fitness levels and a better understanding of physical limitations.
Professor Mary Tabacchi, of Cornell’s research centre, which was responsible for the study, said: “The sole purpose and mission of a destination spa is to motivate and enlighten guests about how to achieve a healthier, more joyous living.
“This study corroborates what we have said for years about the lasting benefits of this type of experiential vacation.”
The research was commissioned the Destination Spa Group. Details: www.destinationspagroup.com
